*Please note that calling Paul Renner lazy is supposed to be so absurd that it can’t be taken seriously. That said I still think the C is the weak point of the most beautiful typeface ever created.

Do you really think the Imaginary version is better? Maybe I’m just so accustomed to the Real version, but I don’t really see an aesthetic advantage to the Imaginary.
Take solace in the fact that Renner didn’t leave the bold C a perfect circle before slicing it.

Paul Renner was perhaps the least lazy typographer that ever lived - he shook up the modern typographic world in Germany when the third Reich was promoting franktur and other blackletter type as the “clothes that best fit the German language” he believed in a balance of geometric construction fused with optics, also, he was arrested by the Nazis!
There was good reasoning for slicing the “c”, but it wasn’t laziness.

Andrew - The ‘laziness’ was more of a joke and I agree with most of what you’ve said. Still think the C is terrible. It is one of those characters that help define Futura that you either love or hate. I just happen to hate it.

Are you serious? You’re calling Renner lazy? Futura is Futura- you cant fault the designer for a clear decision and call him lazy.
